Several days ago, Mandarin Collective held an activity of Chinese calligraphy corner for all our expat students. Predictably, this activity was warmly welcomed by the expats as soon as it was announced. They were all very active to take part in this activity.

Different expats came to Mandarin Collective for different reasons. Some were for their jobs, some were for their love for Chinese, and others were for their interests. Though, Chinese calligraphy, one of the quintessence of Chinese culture, deadly attracted all of them.

At the calligraphy corner, the interesting Chinese calligraphy made all the expats excited and eager to have a try. From learning and writing the basic strokes and imitating the teacher’s handwriting to write simple Chinese characters, students increasingly found the specialty of Chinese characters and the fun of Chinese calligraphy.

Through the study of traditional calligraphy, expats would understand the character better and understand Chinese language deeper, and then they would be more quickly fit into the Chinese culture. Calligraphy made all the expats excited and longing for more.

In the future, we will take calligraphy activity into one of our usual activities, and we warmly invite those who are interested in Chinese culture and calligraphy art to the calligraphy world.

All the teachers, the expats, and all the TCSL students were warmly invited to this event. This interesting party received a warm welcome.

At about 4pm, teachers and students came, and some of the expats also gave us some cakes to show their congratulations. The party had not yet started, and everyone gathered in front of the picture wall. Everyone was talking, laughing, and enjoying the memories of the past events and the development of Mandarin Collective.

Before the party, there is a Chinese calligraphy Corner in a small class, the expats who are interested in Chinese culture and calligraphy art were all warmly welcomed to the calligraphy world. The interesting Chinese calligraphy made all the expats excited and eager to have a try. From the writing, learning the basic strokes to imitate the teacher’s handwriting to write simple Chinese characters, students are increasingly found the specialty of Chinese characters and the fun of Chinese calligraphy, through the study of traditional calligraphy, expats would understand the character better and understand Chinese language deeper, and then they would be more quickly fit into the Chinese culture. Calligraphy made all the expats excited and longing for more.

For this housewarming party, we also particularly divided the dining area where put a variety of delicious dishes, snacks, fruits and drinks. Some teachers and students also brought their well-prepared snacks to share with others.

Since it was a sunny day, we led everyone to the terrace. The party began. First of all, Candy made salutatory to show our gratefulness to those who give us a long-term support, to show our happiness for our expandedness and development and to show our volition and confidence in long journey. After that, one of the expats also made a speech to express her appreciation to Mandarin Collective and her love for China. Her speech touched everyone’s heart.

Finally, it’s time for party, the MC- Jesy introduced the process of the party and the rules of the game with her sense of humor, and everyone could not wait to play the funny telephone game. The game required 4 teams each combining 7 Chinese and Expats in all freely. Two groups competed with each other at the same time finishing “telephone call” task. Then we computed the whole scores for each team according to their speed and the quantity of right characters. The aim of this game was to test the team spirit and co-operation of each team. It also let the expats know if they have a good command of basic mandarin. After the interesting game, there were also some lucky draws.

Learning mandarin lets everyone gather together, and everyone at the party cheered and congratulated to each other. Everybody was happy and excited at the party. We, at the housewarming party, all enjoyed the history and the achievements of Mandarin Collective since its establishment. This party also broadened the exchange platform between the teachers and the students to enhance the internal learning exchanges. Such an event should be kept carrying forward in the future.

Also, we sincerely welcome more friends to join Mandarin Collective, and we study together and grow together ~!

The first day of 2011 has passed already while Mandarin Collective welcomed a whole new year again. Last year, every step of Mandarin Collective left its deep print. We worked hard and made solid progress, creating continual miracles.

In the past one year, higher than 90% of our foreign students who learn mandarin with us chose to continue their classes in Mandarin Collective and more than 68% of them recommended us to their friends, families and colleagues. On the other hand, the training lessons of TCSL (the certificate of teaching Chinese as a second language) had earned extraordinary scores since the rate of fairly low compliment, being zero, and of high employment had fashioned the legend in this very industry. All of these could not be achieved without the support of the lovely students, the partners who always bring us encouragements and our hard-working teachers. Those young teachers, who are also tenacious, strenuous and diligent, have stuck to their post, no matter in burning hot summer or chilly winter, and prepared to devote their knowledge, their passion and their spirits. They have become the indispensable motive forces for pushing forward the advance of mandarin collective, helping it move in the direction of growing up into the pacemaker in TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) industry.

In order to appreciate our teachers for their hard work and efforts in the past year, we mandarin collective held the gathering of teachers to welcome the New Year on Jan 22th. During the party, we enjoyed the laugh and happiness, enhancing the cohesion as a group and bringing infinite hopes to us. Now let’s take look at the pictures.

Come on. The group who collect the most stuff would become the winner.

Although the party came to an end, the laughter is still ringing in our ears. Now the spring festival is coming, mandarin collective wish every one a happiest new year ever.

Hey, what are you hesitating for? Come and join us.

It was a memorable experience for all the teachers and students, and they had a lot of fun in that afternoon with their laugh and love.

The whole classroom was well decorated and a gorgeous Christmas tree put in the middle of the lobby. Everyone would like to take a photo with the beautiful background until the party started. We prepared both Western and Chinese buffet for all the guests and the food was all home made by our lovely teachers. We’ve got sour and sweet duck, BBQ chicken, Greek salad, candied lotus root, prawns, meat ball, cookies, dim sum, snacks, drinks and etc.

The party was started by a welcoming speech from our senior teacher Cathy. She wished Mandarin Collective would get better and better in the near future and hoped everyone will be successful assuredly. We had met lots of friends on the party chatting with each other and making jokes, however, the funniest part on this whole party was playing games. Party games are a brilliant way for a group of friends to get to know each other and to get over shyness. So our first game was YOU ACT AND I GUESS. There were two groups: blue team and red team. Crystal, Ron, Mario and Eugenia made up the blue team while Jesy, Danny, Warren (they got him a nick name: very very cute) and Kajar made up the red team. They played very well without any verbal communications and only by acting. Ron was a beginner in learning Chinese but he still got the top score of the game with Crystal who spoke Germany. The games were designed so that there were no winners or losers, just for the friendship. The second game was PASSING THE BALLNOON: everybody hand in hand with a circle and while Christmas music was played. The balloon was passed from one player to the next. As soon as the music stops, the player holding the balloon should read Chinese cross talk on the glasses. Then the music started again. Mario made us a surprise that he read the cross talk like a native speaker even better than a real Chinese, his Chinese teacher Jesy should be proud of him so much.

During the party we got several times of lucky dews. Three Chinese teachers from Mandarin Collective won the third prize, Lucky Ron and Jesy won the second prize, and the first prize went to our Chinese student Wuying. She shared her prize, two pack of chocolate with everyone and has brought the good luck to everybody.

At last, all of us wrote their new year’s wishes on a card and put it on the Christmas tree. The greeting from Mandarin Collective saying:

To all dear teachers and students from Mandarin Collective,

Thank you for supporting us throughout these years, your advices and experiences has been tremendously helpful. On this special day we send you New Year’s greetings and hope that someday soon we shall be together.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

On 5th October, Mandarin Collective went for a CRAB trip with our lovely students. We met up at line 2 Beixinjin metro station, and also an hour drive to Bacheng. Wow…there already have many cars waiting for their friends. It is really a good season to travel here.

After one hour drive, we arrived at a local restaurant build on the Lake; we ordered a lot of special vegetables and delicious dishes. “I like this water celery” Rasmus said. Yes, it is different with celery that we often had.

after the delicious lunch, we went to the lake park and enjoy the lazy afternoon time there. We played some interesting Chinese games also.

All of us enjoyed the trip to Yangcheng Lake and we hope everyone happy always. And hope all of our students enjoy the Chinese study with Mandarin Collective
